Todish v. Cigna Corp., 206 F.3d 303 (3rd Cir. 2000)- Todish appealed to gain the benefit of a New Jersey statutory exception to the six-year statute of limitations (tolling for "insane" persons.)  The district court dismissed her suit for long-term disability benefits as time-barred.  Although this court found there was "no question that Todish has a history of mental difficulties," the court observed that Todish's own actions—such as hiring an attorney,  requesting transcripts, and appealing Social Security benefits denial—tended to show that her mental impairments did not "prevent her from understanding her legal rights or instituting legal action."
